March 2012 Apple Event Predictions

Ugh, another Apple event upon us. And quite frankly, being an iPad owner, this used to be the only one I cared about. Last year, if they had come up with something more than cameras and a faster CPU, I actually might have upgraded. Metro Style

“Tablet interface + app store + seamless integration with computers + stability would certainly be a winning formula.”

I wrote that about half a year ago in response to some initial reports of Metro UI styling in an alpha build of Windows 8. Fast forward to today, the day after the initial keynote on BUILD, and it’s looking to become a very real possibility that Windows 8 tablets could take off. Microsoft’s Secret Tablet Strategy?

If any of you remember, a while back I criticized Microsoft’s lack of a tablet strategy.  With the market for tablets increasing at such a dramatic rate, Microsoft was looking to be two steps behind as usual with their push to use either Windows 7, a desktop OS not designed for tablets, or to use Windows 7 Embedded, which no one has had experience for nor really seen anything from.  Both of those options were terrible, and made you wonder if Microsoft would ever successfully enter the market.  However, over the past couple of weeks, I’m starting to think that Microsoft has an ace up their sleeve. Apple’s iPad, New and Old

Ah Spring, when a young techie’s thoughts turn to new Apple products being released.  Well, not really, but once again we’re at that wonderful point in time when the news is saturated with rumors about the next iPad in anticipation of the event on Wednesday.

This time around, I actually care a considerable amount as to what they announce, considering I’m in their ecosystem.  After having had my iPad for over half a year now, I’m certainly sold on the formfactor right now.  Will I always want to stay in Apple’s ecosystem?  Probably not, but the fact of the matter is that all the competitors right now, while showing promise, lack the maturity and support that Apple’s products currently have.  Hopefully, within a year or so, I’ll be after an Android or WebOS tablet, but for now I will probably be buying a new iPad – mainly because I have a list of three or so people that will happily buy my old one off me used.
